Jan 07, 2009 at 12:53 AM |
AMD today announced the availability of the AMD platform for ultrathin notebooks, enabling exceedingly thin and light OEM designs with rich entertainment capabilities at an affordable price. The Athlon Neo MV-40 processor runs at 1.6GHz with 512KB of cache and a 15W power envelope. Previously codenamed "Yukon," the platform is based on the new AMD Athlon Neo processor, ATI Radeon X1250 integrated graphics and optional ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3410 discrete graphics and brings true HD entertainment to a new category of stylish notebook PCs. The AMD platform debuts within the HP Pavilion dv2 Entertainment Notebook PC ultrathin notebook, which measures less than one-inch thick and weighs less than four pounds. The HP Pavilion dv2 also comes equipped with a 12.1-inch diagonal LED BrightView display, nearly full-size keyboard, and optional external optical disc drive with Blu-ray capability.

Review: PC vs XboX 360 vs PlayStation 3 Graphics Comparison! |
Written by Review Hunter

Jan 05, 2009 at 11:00 PM |
Back in 2006 (when the current generation of consoles was still called the next generation) we did our first Xbox 360 vs. PlayStation 3 graphics comparison. Since then we've released rounds 2, 3, and 4, but we hadn't touched the third rail--the PC--until now. The graphics comparison features started out as a way to examine which console had better graphics, but readers began asking us to include PC image comparisons for games available on all three platforms. We focused on more recent games for our current comparison, because those are the games people are still buying and playing. You'll likely recognize many of the shots from our previous graphics comparisons. The results aren't terribly surprising, but the differences are still interesting to see. A well-equipped PC beats both consoles easily-of course, that same PC also costs three to four times more than either of the consoles.

Review: Best CPU Cooler Performance - Q4 2008 |
Written by Review Hunter

Jan 05, 2009 at 10:42 PM |
From my experience, 2008 has been a very good year for CPU coolers. We've tested the OCZ Vendetta 2 to perform as well or better than coolers twice its price, and we've discovered that the Thermaltake V14 Pro can deliver top cooling performance while looking good. But heading into 2009 we must bid farewell to the LGA775 platform, which has been the home to many of our most popular products, and welcome in the new LGA1366 socket for the Intel Core i7 CPU & X58 platform. This Best CPU Cooler Performance - Q4 2008 article will be the last foreseeable socket T series round-up from Benchmark Reviews, unless something really big changes the landscape. (Thanks Olin.)

Review: Foxconn Blood Rage - If Looks Could Kill |
Written by Review Hunter

Jan 03, 2009 at 02:02 PM |
Much of the initial crowd "pop" reaction to Foxconn's Blood Rage is related to pictures of the motherboard that have been on the forum based cha-cha-cha circuit for several months now. We'll be the first to tell you, good looks do not necessarily a great motherboard make. But we have to admit, a passing glance at the Blood Rage is compelling enough to create the desire of at least taking a deeper look into what makes this thing tick.

News: Nvidia 40nm Desktop GPUs Line-Up For 2009 |
Written by FC

Dec 28, 2008 at 11:05 PM |
According to some documents VR-Zone has seen, Nvidia is preparing a move to 40nm process technology for their top to bottom GPU line-up by Q2 next year.
This transition to 40nm will first take place with their high end GT212 GPU in Q2 follows by the mainstream GT214 and GT216 as well as value GT218 in Q3. GT212 will be replacing the 55nm GT200 so you can expect pretty short lifespan for the upcoming GTX295 and GTX285 cards. (Thanks Steve.)

Review: DFI LanParty DK P45-T3RSB Plus Motherboard |
Written by Review Hunter
Dec 27, 2008 at 03:52 AM |
In this review, we'll be taking a look at the DFI LanParty DK P45-T3RSB Plus motherboard. It's one of the many products which fall under DFI's Dark Series range of motherboards. It utilises Intel's already proven P45 chipset with ICHR10, supporting 1333/1066/800MHz FSB, DDR3 ram (upto DDR3-1800/OC) and Crossfire configuration. Four DDR3 DIMM slots allow upto 16Gb ram to be installed, not to mention onboard gigabit ethernet, HD audio and RAID functions. Looking at the specifications, this motherboard is feature-rich and should compete very well against others in its class.

Nvidia has come out with a new GPU called NB8E-SET which is essentially NB8E-SE with the new underfill. NB8E-SE is used on many notebooks most commonly advertised as GeForce 8700M GT, GeForce 8800M GS or GeForce 9650M GS. NB8E-SET (G84-751) uses the new Hitachi underfill and is clocked at 625MHz core and 128-bit 800MHz GDDR2/3 memories similar to the current NB8E-SE.

Review: Athlon X2 7750 vs. Intel E5200 OC & Value |
Written by Review Hunter

Dec 23, 2008 at 12:50 AM |
We've overclocked the latest Athlon X2 7750 Black Edition and a retail Intel Pentium Dual Core E5200 to the most stable operating frequency they would manage, air cooled, with a pair of similarly priced Asus motherboards: the P5Q Deluxe and M3A79-T.
At this point we'd naturally show off CPU-Z screenshots and BIOS shots of the Athlon X2 7750 Black Edition, however a component on the M3A79-T died towards the end of our testing, leaving us without Radeon HD 4830 results and the last few pictures so we have to apologise! Previous to this however, we had benchmarked the new 7750 BE at just 3.1GHz stable, although we found it would boot into Windows all the way up to 3.4GHz but wouldn't sit through the tests.

Dec 23, 2008 at 12:47 AM |
Since Inno3D 55nm version of GeForce GTX260 hit Japanese market a couple of days ago, EVGA’s new 55nm GTX260 also pops up in Europe. There will be at least three models of EVGA 55nm GTX 260: the reference clocked, Super Clocked and Super Super Clocked cards. Some details of EVGA 55nm GTX260 can be found at an Austrian retail website DiTech. Its Core/Shader/Memory clock is 626/1350/1058MHz (2106MHz Data Rate), a bit higher than Inno3D 55nm GTX260. The memory interface and capacity are 448bit and 896MB. The Super Super Clocked card is anticipated to work at least 650MHz.

News: Windows 7 Beta 1 download on January 5, 2009? |
Written by FC
Dec 23, 2008 at 12:44 AM |
PDC attendees got the Windows 7 pre-beta build and, while MDC attendees appear to be the only group that will receive a physical copy of Windows 7 Beta 1, other Microsoft enthusiast groups will have access to Beta 1 via download. Testers are already being promised Beta 1 (download-only) in English, German, Japanese, and Arabic, with access starting sometime in early 2009. When I covered the fact that Microsoft sent out invites to potential testers, I gave January 5 as a possible date for the download. I don't entirely trust this source, but that same date seems to have shown up in other reports.
