News: First Open Source Game Console the GP2X Wiz ! PDF Print E-mail

Based on Linux, the GP2X Wiz (nice name!) is a completely open multi-functional handheld entertainment device. The makers, GamePark Holding from Korea, say it’s different than other shanzhai video game consoles in that it uses a completely “open source” approach. Supposed to be released in late 2008 with a retail price of USD 179.99, there have been massive delays and troubles with the company, but now, finally, it is apparently ready to go.

Now we can see that each SM has four texture units associated with it. More unconventionally, each SM also hosts a geometry unit, which Nvidia has creatively dubbed a "polymorph engine." Since the GF100 has four GPCs and 16 SMs, it has a total of 64 texture units and 16 polymorph engines. The Fermi architecture detailed here is scalable along several lines: variants could be made to have fewer GPCs and fewer numbers of SMs within each GPC. We can surely expect to see smaller chips based on this architecture that have been scaled down in one or both ways.

An upcoming action role-playing game under development by BioWareEdmonton with assistance from BioWare Montreal, and set to be published by Electronic Arts. The game is the sequel to Mass Effect, and will be released on Microsoft Windows and Xbox.

What we would tend to do with the second card is do a Crossfire article. If you've read about the first HD 5450 we reviewed from Sapphire earlier today, you'll know that the performance on the HD 5450 in games is hardly flattering and realistically it's just not a model you would Crossfire.
