AMD has been very quiet recently despite of numerous rumours and news regarding Nvidia's Fermi's development progress. One thing that the red camp(ATI) has in their own mind is the fact that their 5000 series line-ups will not be shaken by the arrival of Nvidia's delayed Geforce GTX470/480.

This is not really surprising as AMD has already developed new refreshments over it's existing series just in case the green team threatens the market positioning.  There are currently a few words circulating within the manufacturing base regarding the 5890/5990. It was said that the tweaked architecture will give it a worthy 15% performance improvement, if Nvidia decides to play dual, 5990 will be the first second revision of AMD's dual GPUs in 5000 series.

I'd hardly say that launching a card a week for the best part of two months is keeping quiet!

Fermi is a new architecture, it may have certain factors that aren't even used by game developers. It's a risky development that Nvidia has invested in. I hope it's not going to be another fiasco.

Quoting ACDSee:
With PhysX and DirectX 11 on the GTX480, I think AMD needs to seriously consider it as a threat.

Nvidia is playing catch up again, there are no real benchmarks to indicate real performance yet. You will never know the output, it could be another Geforce FX. If AMD has prepared additional line ups then they are practically ready for a threat.
